An arabesque of colours

About the work

A polychrome blossoming runs along the entire perimeter of this ketubah, turning the border into a continuous arabesque. Orange, red, magenta and violet flowers nestle among green leaves and slender brown scrolls; a few small turquoise centres add unexpected counterpoints. The forms change at every turn: open corollas, drooping buds and flowers with pointed petals alternate with lively variety, held together by the movement of the stems. At the centre, the black text and the pale, metallic-sheened heading preserve a distinct presence, set within a broad luminous ground. It is a composition of festive character, in which the intensity of colour finds order in the continuity of the design and the regularity of the layout.
