Atelier · Italia
Hand-painted ketubot, designed together with the couple.
The journey
From the first conversation to delivery. A slow ritual, just as it was for the Italian ketubot of the seventeenth century.
You write us a few lines: who you are, when the date is, what moves you. I answer personally within a few days to understand if we can work together. No commitment, no automatic quote.
You will need: your email and an approximate date.
We schedule a video call (or a meeting at the atelier, if you are in Italy). It is a conversation, not a brief: we get to know each other, I tell you how I work, I understand what you love and what you don't.
You will need: about an hour of your time, together.
We gather concrete details: where you met, places that recur in your life, objects, animals, plants, family references. These are what become painted symbols in the work.
You will need: the wish to truly tell your story.
We define the visual character of the piece: palette, atmosphere, historical references. Some couples love classic Venetian ketubot, others look for a more contemporary language. There is no right answer.
You will need: images of things you love, even outside the world of ketubot.
I draw the design and show it to you. We iterate together: we change, move, adjust colours, until it feels truly yours. Only after your approval do I move on to the making.
You will need: time to look at it calmly, together.
Weeks of work with pigments, inks and gold leaf, one layer at a time. There are no prints, no shortcuts. It is the longest, quietest part of the journey.
You will need: patience, and trust.
The work arrives ready for the ceremony, protected in dedicated packaging and accompanied by care instructions. If needed, it arrives ahead of the date — we never leave tight margins.
You will need: a safe delivery address.
After the wedding, the ketubah stays with you. On request we recommend restorers and framers, and we remain available should you ever wish for restoration, fine art prints, or a second piece for a future occasion.
You will need: just the right wall in your home.
In practice
Roughly 2 to 4 months, from the first conversation to delivery. The exact timing is agreed together: it depends on the complexity of the design, the season and your wedding date. We recommend writing to us at least three months ahead; even earlier for more elaborate pieces.
There is no price list: every project has a dedicated quote, because every work is different. After our introductory meeting you receive a written quote that takes into account size, surface, amount of gold leaf, and the complexity of the borders and calligraphy. No surprises along the way.
If you don't have everything yet, that's no problem: we work on it together.
